Potatoes, as one of the world's important staple crops, have been subjected to extensive scientific research and attention. However, the growth process of potatoes is often threatened by pests and diseases, such as late blight and early blight. Scientific literature related to these diseases discusses the pathogenesis of different ailments. Moreover, an increasing number of researchers are utilizing molecular biology and genomics techniques to study the genome structure, gene function, and expression regulation of potatoes, providing crucial theoretical and technical support for genetic improvement and disease resistance breeding. However, research findings related to potatoes are scattered throughout scientific literature, making knowledge acquisition time-consuming for researchers in related fields. Hence, we have developed the Potato Gene-Disease Knowledge Base.

 

The Potato Gene-Disease Knowledge Base is dedicated to collecting, organizing, and exploring the relationship between potato genes and related diseases. Its primary task is to systematically analyze literature data to reveal the interactions, regulatory mechanisms, and potential correlations between potato genes and diseases (such as those caused by viruses, fungi, and bacteria).

 

The work of this knowledge base covers several aspects, including but not limited to:

(1) Literature Collection and Organization: Literature data primarily come from PubMed(https://pubmed.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/).

(2) Information Extraction and Analysis: Using natural language processing and LLM, information related to potato genes and diseases is extracted and analyzed from the literature.

(3) Association Mining and Knowledge Graph Construction: Based on the mined information, a network of associations between potato genes and diseases is established, constructing a knowledge graph to reveal the relationships between genes and diseases as well as potential regulatory mechanisms.

(4) Potato Ontology Construction: Establishment of the potato ontology library based on the constructed knowledge graph.

(5) Data Visualization: Presenting the mined knowledge in a visual manner provides data query and analysis services for researchers, agricultural experts, etc., promoting research and application in potato disease resistance breeding and disease prevention and control fields.

 

In summary, the establishment of the Potato Gene-Disease Knowledge Base aims to provide important scientific support and decision-making references for potato disease resistance breeding and disease prevention and control, thereby promoting the sustainable development of the potato industry.
